Supers Sweep Stars in Round 1

Posted July 17, 2016

The Roblin Stars were simply no match for the second seeded Canora Supers in round one of the Southeast Senior Baseball League (SESBL) playoffs as the Supers won the best of three series in two straight games with 6-1 and 16-2 victories.

Wednesday July 13: Supers 6 - Roblin 1 @ Canora Sask

A five run bottom of the third inning gave the Supers the breathing room needed to cruise their way to a 6-1 victory in game 1 of the SESBL quarter-final series.

Derek Palagian started pitching and was in fine form, throwing all seven innings, allowing just one earned run, five hits with seven strikeouts to pick up the win. The Stars were kept in check most of the night as baserunners were few and far between.

The Supers bats were alive with ten hits, including two hit games by Greg Andreychuk and Zack Rakochy. Six of the hits came in the bottom of the third off of Stars pitcher Greg Clark, who otherwise pitched a solid six innings.

The Supers defence played very well with just one error.

Thursday July 14: Supers 16 - Roblin 2 @ Roblin MB

The Supers offence scored sixteen runs on only eight hits, but twelve walks and two hit batters was the Stars downfall as game two ended in a series clinching blowout.

Adam Korb pitched five innings for the win, allowing just two runs on two hits with three strikeouts. He had excellent command of the strike zone. Logan Parachoniak pitched the final two innings to slam the door on the Stars season.

Chris Newans had a huge night at the plate with a double, home run, and six runs batted in. Brogan Legebokoff had a two rbi double while Travis Mentanko had an rbi double. Greg Andreychuk, Terry Cumming, Clint Maduck, and Logan Parachoniak each also had one hit. For the most part the Supers allowed Stars pitcher Bradon Zimmer do the work for them as he could not find the strike zone consistently, allowing too many walks and wild pitches.

The Supers now have to wait for the other two series to finish in order to determine their next opponent. The only thing certain is that home field will belong to the Supers in a best of three series
