Supers Earn Hard Fought 8-4 Victory Over Swan River
Posted June 7, 2012
In years past, when the Swan River Reds came to town, it was virtually a guaranteed victory for the Canora Supers. On June 7, the Supers won 8-4, but had to fight tooth and nail for the victory. The Reds outhit the Supers 11 to 6, and only committed two errors compared to the Supers five. However, the difference in this game was the eleven walks the Reds pitching gave up, opposed to the zero that Supers pitcher Travis Fogg surrendered.
Fogg pitched seven innings, and only gave up one earned run out of the four runs allowed. Fiver Supers errors resulted in three unearned runs. Fogg gave up eleven hits, zero walks, and had ten strikeouts. His record improved to 2-0 on the season as he recorded the win.
Offensively, Zach Rakochy and Trevor Latham led the way with multi-hit games. Rakochy went 2 for 3 with a walk, a run, an rbi and a stolen base. Latham went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Derek Palagian just missed a home run to center with an rbi double, while Carson Dennis had an rbi single, a walk, a stolen base and 2 runs scored. Graham Lamb, Mark Cuthill, and Beau Swan each scored a run to round out the attack. Cuthill also made his Supers debut.
With the win, the Supers record improves to 3 wins and 2 losses, good enough for third place in the South East Senior Baseball League, trailing the Yorkton Yankees and Willowbrook Royals who both sport 6-0 records. The Supers next game is Sunday, June 10 in Yorkton as they take on the Yorkton Orioles. Game time is 6:30 pm at Jubilee Park.
