Tough One in Willowbrook
Posted May 20, 2011
A couple of bad baserunning miscues, a few mistakes in the field, and not enough timely hits was a recipe for an overall lackluster performance for the Supers, as they fell 9-2 in Willowbrook to the Royals. Willowbrook came prepared to play as they erupted for 3 runs in the 4th, and 4 runs in the 6th to seal the deal.
Travis Fogg started on the hill for the Supers, and pitched well over 5 innings. The only hiccup was the bottom of the 4th where the Royals strung together a few hits in a row to put a 3 spot on the scoreboard. Fogger's pitching line was 5 innings, 4 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts. Unfortunately he was the losing pitcher. Trevor Latham pitched the bottom of the 6th with little warmup as relief pitcher Darcy Blommaert had soreness in his shoulder.
Offensively, the Supers had 6 hits, with 3 coming off the bat of cleanup hitter Kelly McTavish. Kelly had 2 singles and a double with both rbi's. Greg Andreychuk and Carson Dennis each had a single, while Trevor Latham had a double. The Supers also drew 7 walks, but just couldn't mix in a few more hits when they needed them.
With the loss, the Supers fall to 1-2 on the season. Next week will be busy, as the Supers play on Wednesday in Swan River, Thursday at home vs the Yorkton Yankees, and Friday at home vs Willowbrook. See you all at the park.
