The Axemen franchise traces its roots to the PBL dating back to 1999 when the Armena Royals entered the league. The Royals would play until the 2003 season when the franchise would rebrand itself as the Armena Axemen until 2008 when the team would join the NCABL. The move prompted long time Armena players to restart the Royals franchise which has continued to this very day. Because of the hard work and dedication by players like Jason Buzzell, Scott Peterson, Wes Harrison, Jordan Riopel and Bryan Toles, the Axemen franchise has a detailed and successful history of baseball that spans almost 20 years.
We are excited for the opportunity to potentially play in the PBL once again with a new generation of ball players from the Camrose area leading the way for what the franchise hopes is years to come. The Axemen have made their intentions known to the PBL as the teams will be holding a meeting on March 15 to discuss the Axemen application as well as an Edmonton based team’s application for 2018.
The NCABL has been and will continue to be a fantastic senior AA baseball league that will hopefully one day see a Camrose team play in it once again. The Axemen would like to thank the NCABL executive, team governors and players for a great ten seasons of baseball.
