NEW MANAGER NAMED FOR 2017

The Camrose Axemen announced recently that Kris Kushnerick will become the Axemen’s manager for the 2017 season. He will become the team’s third manager in the North Central Alberta Baseball League and sixth manager since the franchise began in 1999 as the Powerline Baseball League’s Armena Royals. The news came after manager Bryan Toles retired this off season, leaving as the Axemen’s winningest manager in franchise history.

Kushnerick, who is also a Governor for the Axemen, transitions into the role of full time manger after seeing spot managerial duty from 2013 until 2016. Kushnerick came to the Axemen for the 2006 PBL season after spending time with the Ardrossan Steelers before the team folded. Prior to that Kushnerick suited up for the Lamont Steelers and the Ryley Rebels dating back to 2000. The Axemen also added Kris Johnson and Doug Shoenknecht to the coaching roster along with long time coach Jordan Riopel.

2017 will be the Axemen’s tenth season in the now fifty year old North Central Alberta Baseball League and nineteenth season overall. After spending much of 2012 - 2015 competing for a NCABL Championship, 2016 was a struggle for the Axemen who limped to a 9-9 record after suffering a pair of forfeit losses due to player availability. Kushnerick and the coaching staff will inherit a young squad in 2017 which will be geared towards developing young ball players for a long term sustainable franchise in the Camrose area.

The Axemen’s season will begin on Thursday May 11 against the Sherwood Park Athletics at Centennial Park in Sherwood Park.
