Opening weekend

Posted May 12, 2019

We split with the Sox 2-3 and 13-9 on opening day.  Both teams were kind of Blah, but there was some good stuff from both sides.

Game 1 was a low hitting afair, they scratched across 3 runs by cashing guys when they got on, which was enough to beat out our 4 hit effort on the day.  Riki was mashing the ball right at people, and CD had 2 knocks, but Sully was the story showing no rust and dealing all day.  The Rooks showed well, Regan and Jaxson both making their debuts and looking great with Regan making all the plays ar 2B, and Jax with the Big League bloop for his first RBI.  Tough loss, but it's only game 1, so put it in the rear view.

Game 2 started quick with the boys putting the ball in play and the Sox booting it around a bit...to be counterd by us booting/throwing it around more in the bottom of the first, putting us down 5-3 after 1 inning.  We chipped away and ended up taking back the lead and holding on to it for a 13-9 win.  Guys were ripping the ball with Riki smashing a double to the wall in centre, Campo and Latos knocking triples, and JAX with the longest home run in Giants history over the trees on the other side of the walking path over the left field wall...it was DEEP.  The rest of the rooks got their shot, Mitch catching a great game, Parker battling through some control issues but looking solid in his first Giants start, and Luis grabbing an inning in right to end the game.  Dubbs did the show-and-go routine for a couple knocks, Campo had 4 RBIs, Riki continued to rip the ball, and Jayde came in throwing bullets.

Pitchers were great today, holding the Sox to one extra base hit, we just have to get the bats rolling a bit more consistently moving forward.  All in all, pretty good start to the season.  Good crew of rookies have been added to the crew, gonna be a fun season.
