HEAD COACH
BARRY HAYNES

Coach Haynes is entering his ninth season at Buckhorn Middle School. Coach Haynes coaches the hitters and catchers. Before coming to Buckhorn Middle, Coach Haynes was Director of Baseball Operations at Troy University under former Head Coach, Bobby Pierce. Coach Haynes graduated from Guntersville High School in 2004 and Troy University in 2008 with a bachelor’s in Social Science Secondary Education. Coach Haynes received his first head coaching position in the Summer of 2008 with the American Legion Post 70 out of Troy, Alabama. He led the team to a record of 30-6 and the State Championship that summer. He currently teaches 7th Grade Geography and Civics here at Buckhorn Middle School. He is currently earning his Master’s in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.  Coach Haynes and his wife Stephanie have been married for almost six years and have one child, John Robert, who is almost four.

ASSISTANT COACH
Varnado

Coach Varnado is entering his second season at Buckhorn Middle School. Coach Varnado has been coaching baseball for over 10 years.  After graduating from Butler High School in 2005, he began his coaching with American Legion Baseball for Post 237 until 2009.  Coach Varnado went on to start his college career at Calhoun Community College until 2009 and then transferred to the University of Alabama. While attending the University of Alabama he worked for the Athletic Event Management Staff as an intern while earning his Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sports Science in 2011. Coach Varnado began coaching again at Columbia High School 2011-2015 as the Varsity Assistant and Head Junior Varsity coach. He is currently a Special Education Aide here at Buckhorn Middle School, assisting with both 7th and 8th Grade students.  Coach Varnado has a son, Peyton, who is two years old.

ASSISTANT COACH
Jody Dodd

Coach Dodd will be entering his second year coaching baseball at Buckhorn Middle School this season. Coach Dodd has been teaching and coaching for 21 years, 12 of which have been on the campus of Buckhorn Middle or High School. Coach Dodd has spent most of his coaching career in basketball including time spent at Buckhorn High School, Lauderdale County High School, Bradshaw High School, Florence High School and Buckhorn Middle. He graduated from Athens State College in 1997 with a bachelor’s in Social Science Secondary Education. Coach Dodd and his wife Erica have been married for 17 years and have 3 children, Gavin 14, Gunner 12, and Kyndall Lynn 8.

ASSISTANT COACH
Joseph Keohane

Coach Keohane is a Buckhorn graduate of the class of 2017. He works at Sexton Welding Supply. He coaches the hitters and pitchers. He is very pleased and excited to work with your kids and help make a difference in their lives. He strives to make your kids the best that they can be on and off the field. He is excited and ready for the upcoming season. GO BUCKS! 

ASSISTANT COACH
Mike Lambert

Coach Lambert is entering his first year coaching at Buckhorn Middle School. He coaches the hitters and infielders. He is a graduate of the the 2017 at Buckhorn High School. He played baseball at Buckhorn High School, and played for Coach Haynes at Buckhorn Middle School. He currently working on his general studies at Calhoun Community College and plans to transfer to Athens State University, and get his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Secondary Education. 

ASSISTANT COACH
Caelen Redding

Coach Redding is entering his first year coaching at Buckhorn Middle School. He is a Buckhorn graduate of the class of 2017. He played baseball for Coach Haynes from 2011-2013 at Buckhorn Middle School. He also played baseball at Buckhorn High School. He is currently in his first year at Calhoun Community College in pursuit of a degree in physical therapy.
