| Game Notes: This was a great game from start to finish with all players that got on the floor getting on the score sheet. The first quarter was a flourish of back and forth action with Shaunavon taking the quarter lead at 18-15. The Rockets started off slow in the second quarter as the Shaunavon squad extended their lead to eight. It was at this point that the Rockets decided to put their 1-3-1 press on to try to gain some momentum and worked to great success. The teams exchanged baskets until the score became 28-20 for the Silhouettes when the Rockets started converting their press into points and the closed the half with a 12-0 run to take the lead going into half. The Silhouettes continued to struggle against the press and the third quart was dominated by the Rockets by a score of 16-4. The Rockets entered the fourth quarter up 48-32 which should have been a sealed deal, but the Silhouettes are well coached and did not roll over. Shaunavon figured out the Assiniboia press and got a couple of easy layups so the team reverted to their regular 3-2 zone. Two things then happened, Shaunavon started hitting some shots and Assiniboia became tentative so has not to give up their lead, but it was steadily twindling and the Rockets saw the lead shrink to just 6 points with three minutes to play. It was at this point that Ashley Hall and Shanelle Waiting took over the game and continually drove to the hoop going to the line three times between the two of them and going 4/6 between that and a Kayla Romanow short corner shot allowed the team to go on a 10-5 run at the end to seal the deal. Game balls go to Waiting, Hall and Romanow for stepping up in the fourth quarter and to the team In general as this victory put the Rockets in the regional tournament for the first time in eight years. | |||||
