After falling to USUE in the first game of the Las Vegas portion of their spring trip, the Bears defensive woes continued and lack of offence proved costly. On friday afternoon, Alberta took on USUE in the first game of the Bears' doubleheader. Strong pitching performances by starter Brandon Hill (So.) reliever Cole Cooper (Fr.) helped keep the game close, holding the Eagles to a 4-0 lead until the 8th. The Eagles took advantage of a couple defensive miscues from the Bears defence, scoring 4 more in the 8th, leading to an 8-0 final with the 7-run mercy rule after 7 innings in effect. Dean Olson (So.) lead the way for the Bears offensively, going 2 for 4 at the plate. Freshman catcher Trent Greer went 1 for 3 in his collegiate debut, whicle Ty Wagar (Fr.) also went 1 for 3 as he gathered his first collegiate hit.
The Bears took on (#19) College of Southern Nevada that evening losing by a score of 14-4. Brett Higgins (Fr.) went 1 for 3 with a bases clearing 2B. The following day, Alberta took on CSN for the final time on the weekend, losing by a score of 15-1. The lone bright spot for the Bears came from relievers Scott Kramers (Fr.) and Trevor Petty (So.). Kramers and Petty combined for 4.1 innings while striking out 2, without giving up a run.
