Rice Recap

Last Saturday (March 29th), the Lady Spartans concluded their 3 day meet at Rice University at the Victor Lopez Classic.  The ladies had a tremendous performance in their final tune-up before district and many school records and personal bests were recorded.

2013 was the first year that the Spartans attended this meet and finished near the bottom of the rankings, yet earned valuable experience.  This year the Spartans finished 2nd overall (out of 32 teams), with 64.5 points behind only Kingwood’s 81 points.

A few individuals stood out due to their record breaking performances and these included:

The 200 meter record of Jasmine Jack (class of 2012) was broken twice in the same meet.  Jasmine’s record of 26.46 was first broken by sophomore Cydney Varner who raced to a 26.28 finish and then one heat later was broken by junior Jenya Hayes who ran a 26.02.

Senior Erica Brown continued her dominance in the distance races this year with a pair of nationally ranked performances in the 1500 and 3000 this week.  Erica took home double gold in these races clocking a school record time of 10:20.20 (17th in the nation) in the 3000 and a time of 4:44.92 in the 1500. (#8 time in the nation).  Without saying both of these times are school records.
