Angels kiss...sisters

On a perfect night for baseball (between heat waves) fans were treated to a well-played seven-inning contest between the Angels and Reds. Eric Appelquist outlasted Angels starter Brandon Metz (3.33 IP) as the Reds outpaced the Angels 3-1 after three innings of play. Teams shifted gears, with the Reds sending Jordan Bieber to the mound and the Angels countering with Parker Filazek (3.67 IP). After the Reds stretched the lead to 6-1, the Angels made up some ground, behind only 8-7 in the Sixth. The Angels wrapped their order on Bieber and forced the entry of closer Wagner. Speed was a killer for the Reds, as Angel Turner Ripplinger forced a bunt defence error into a triple in the Fourth and scored an inside-the-park home run in the Sixth (not to mention a stellar seat-of-the-pants defensive play in the bottom half). The Angels continued to pour it on in the Seventh, taking the lead 10-8, but could not hold on as walks and errors conspired to undo one of their best outings of the season. As the seventh inning came to a close with a gutsy play from first baseman Ayden Gelowitz, the score was tied at 10 and everybody puckered up.
