Angels disappear in Pirate rematch
Posted June 25, 2017
The nightcap on June 18th at Optimist Park featured the Angels versus the Pirates, who ten days earlier were victorious 5 - 2. On this night, the Pirates were coming off an 11 - 3 victory over the Orioles in the opening game of their scheduled doubleheader. The Pirates kept right on rolling and enjoyed a clutch pitching performance from Luke Krupski, who shut the visiting side down for four innings. The Angels managed only one run, in the First, when Jake Hesselink earned a walk, stole second base, then third, and scored on a wild pitch that walked Brandon Metz. Only Ayden Gelowitz spoiled the no-hitter, in the Fourth, with a single, but that spark was snuffed out with Andy Huber hitting into a double-play in the next at bat. The Angels were three up - three down in the Second, Third, and the final Fifth inning, while the Pirates rode the momentum of a bat-around bottom Third to push the score over the five-inning mercy threshold, ending 12-1.
