Bulldogs Open Season Victorious!
Posted March 14, 2018
Sophomore left hander, Dalton Rouse was dominant on Tuesday, March 13th at the South Greene Rebels. Rouse threw first pitch strikes on 16 of the 23 batters he faced. The big lefty struck out 11 Rebel batters without allowing a walk. The win and complete game were the first of Rouse's Varsity career. Every pitch in his arsenal was working.
Offensively, we showed the ability to drive the baseball on Tuesday, as Dru and Josh Owens, Brett Deaton, and Gavin Hardin all hit 2B (doubles) for the visiting Bulldogs. We also showed the ability to execute offense. Senior shortstop, Dru Owens executed a beautiful Safety Squeeze, scoring brother, Josh. Freshman, Parker Henry laid down a nice Sacrifice Bunt to put the winning run 90 feet away late in the game. We swiped an incredible 11 bases (stolen bases) as a team.
Dru Owens made a pair of nice defensive plays at short. Sophomore, Elijah Smith made a nice running shoestring catch from the right field position. Gavin Hardin played a clean third base, and Brett Deaton, going back to our final scrimmage at Unicoi County, is giving us all we could ask from the catcher position. Deaton has really picked up the system.
We understand it's only one game, but it was nice to open the season with a complete team effort, playing a pretty well rounded game, in less than ideal conditions, as saying it was cold would be the understatement of the 2018 season. We appreciate everyone who braved the elements to support Bulldog Baseball. We are scheduled to travel to Providence Academy, tomorrow, Thursday, March 15th. Senior, Gavin Hardin is slated to get the ball for the visiting team.
