What a night for soccer. The rain was coming in sideways, and felt like needles hitting the skin. The wind threatened to lift the tent away, and there was no shelter for parent or player!
The Lightning were short benched, with only 9 to start the game, and despite us having only 12 players, we were hoping to take advantage! We pressed hard and Michael drew a foul in the first 2 minutes. This lead to engaging us in their end and an opening goal by Matthew K at 3 minutes! What a start! The game got a little chirpy, and more than a few fouls ensued. It wasn’t until the 16th mark when Davis would get our next shot on net. Sean was playing keeper for us and our attack and defence were keeping the ball away. Michael, Mitchell and Matthew C would get chances at 20, 34 and 36 minutes. The 98Lightning would get a 10th player and then take a yellow card for body checking Matt C. He would leave the game injured at 44 minutes and the half ended with us up 1 -0! We had 7 shots on net to the Lightning’s none.
The second half started with the Lightning coming at us. We had swapped Marcus into goal, and he was tested early! 5 minutes in he had to make a huge save from a point blank shot! Unfortunately 2 minutes later the Lightning would even the score with a hard volley from midfield. The game was rough, with several more fouls by both teams and a Lightning player taking a run at Andrew after a strong challenge – another yellow card to the Lightning. In the 2nd half, we would only get 1 shot on net, Nick had it at 85 minutes. The Lightning would get the game winner at 88 minutes.
All in, we had 8 shots on net, while the 98Ligghtning had 4 on net.

As you may be aware, Adam Mogg has quit the soccer club. We will be looking to add to our roster, and making some enquires with the league. However, if you know of any ex-players who were not playing this year but may wish to return, please forward their contact info to Coach Tim or myself.
