Reds look fresh, not sharp in loss

The Reds lost a tough game on Friday night to the Mayville Red Caps.  It was also the first night for the Reds to wear their new white uniforms.  But the performance didn't match with how good the new tops looked.  The Reds struggled to put the ball in play, were gifted four runs (no RBIs) by Mayville and fell 8-4.  Reds co-manager Matt Morin summed it up pretty well on KROX: “I think we came out flat to start the game,” said Reds’ player/manager Matt Morin. “We just seemed to not take good cuts, our approach at the plate was a little off. Their pitcher seemed to keep us off balance.”

Morin also said, “There at the end it seemed we gave some good effort and tried to come back. We tried to come back and not roll over and die at the end.”

He was completely right, from the moment they arrived at the park through the first 6-7 innings the Reds went through the motions, and weren't focused on competing, on winning. It showed, especially at the plate.

The Reds will have to play much better baseball on Wednesday night to stay in the game against the Class B powerhouse Moorhead Brewers who have finished third in the state each of the past four seasons.
