Reds a win away from State

Posted August 7, 2017

The Reds rebounded from a 10-1 mistake filled loss to Roseau on Saturday to out small ball the Royals Sunday night 7-4 and advance to within one game of the state tournament.  Roseau had 19 hits, spread out over nine innings, but could still only manage four runs against Reds Ace Sean Minder who went the distance for his fifth complete game of the season, tying a team record.

The Reds opened the region 10 tournament by committing 8 errors on against the Royals in a lackluster effort Saturday morning.  After a night off, the Reds played well enough to win Sunday morning, taking down the Warroad Muskies for the fifth time this season, 5-2. That set the stage for the matchup with Roseau.  Following Saturday's drubbing, the Reds with 0-5 vs. the Royals this season and had been outscored 54-14.

With the win, the Reds advance to the second weekend of the Region Tournament for the second straight year. Last year after an electrifying first weekend which included knocking off Ada, the Reds would fall to Roseau as the Royals advanced to state.  This year, the Reds will take on NPL Champion Moorhead Saturday at 12 p.m. in Bemidji.  The Reds and Miners split their season series.
