Maroons Win Area Playoff Off
Posted April 1, 2017
The Maroon Varsity soccer team traveled to Bryan on Friday to face off against the Foster Lady Falcons in the Area Playoff match. The Maroons showed why they are one of the best teams in the region by beating the Falcons 4-0 and not allowing them a single shot in 80 minutes. The Maroons controlled every aspect of the game and notched the game winner just 10 minutes into the match. Mia Czarnecki was fouled 20 yards out, she stepped up to take the direct kick and easily found the back of the net. Maroons up 1-0!
The scoring would not let up with the Maroons pilling on 2 more goals before the half. A cross from the outside found 3 Maroons waiting and after the post saved 2 shots, the keeper another, Junior Riley Moore finally buried the ball into the back of the net after a Gracie Jackson shot was deflected to her feet.
Gracie Jackson would add the 3rd goal a few minutes later when Lauren Black played an amazing cross to the back post and Gracie took one touch before finding the back of the net. Maroons up 3-0 at half.
The second half allowed for more of the same play, with the Maroons frustrating the Falcons with every touch of the ball. Freshmen Stephanie von Rosenberg would put the final points on the scoreboard when Junior Aly Singh carried the ball down the left side, beat 2 defenders and crossed a perfect ball to the feet of Stephanie.
The defense of Jasper Cohn, Emma Hagert, Maddie Heal, Ella Rosi, Riley Moore, Sarah Jane Moe made keeper Emily Ennis's night very easy and earned the Maroons the 16th shutout of the season.
The Maroons are back in action Tuesday night verse Alamo Heights. Kickoff is at 7 pm at Seguin High School with the winner earning a trip to the Regional Tournament. The team would really appreciate your support as they will face a very good, but very beatable Alamo Heights squad.
The girls and coaches would also like to send out a HUGE congratulations to the boys team on a dramatic win on Friday. Both teams hope to continue on the playoff journey together. On to Round 3!!!
