SUSSEX JAYHAWKS Youth Football

Sussex Jayhawks is a youth tackle football program for 5th and 6th grade boys and girls lead by volunteers and is based in Sussex, WI. The organization is not affiliated with any school in the Hamilton School District or the Sussex Recreation Department.  The Sussex Jayhawks is proud to be affiliated with the Wisconsin All American Youth Football League (AAYFL) and is a non-profit tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

SUSSEX JAYHAWKS Mission Statement

The mission of the Sussex Jayhawks Youth Football program is to introduce the sport of football to the children in our community.  We strive to develop solid fundamentals, discipline, good sportsmanship, strong character and respect for the Team.  Our goal is to help develop these important life skills while developing their love of the game and desire to continue on to the next level.  While we aim for success, we want to promote a positive and fun experience in a safe environment which we hope will develop a passion and enthusiasm for Jayhawks Football.

SUSSEX JAYHAWKS Purpose

Our purpose is to teach the game of football to children of this community whose parents are interested in being a part of a competitive environment that will promote safety and fundamentals over winning at the expense of a child or opponent.  Our players are well coached in the fundamentals of football and in the physical aspect of the sport.  Players are coached to become teammates, to be responsible for their equipment, know their position on the field, and to win and lose with dignity.  We promote our players and families to take in pride in their team and our organization and to remember they represent the Sussex Jayhawks and the community.

Through hard work and commitment from the Board, coaches, players, and families our organization will be respected and one where its teams will be strong contenders in the leagues we participate in every season.

SUSSEX JAYHAWKS Philosophy

Our philosophy is to constantly work on improving our organization to provide a positive and constructive environment to learn the game of football and to give each player an opportunity to have fun while being part of one of our teams!

Also, our philosophy is to achieve team success by focusing on teaching the basics of football and the fundamentals to every player during practices so they can be successful during games and develop the confidence to move on to the next level.  Every player will be treated fairly and know that they are an important part of the team and their contributions are valued.  We believe that children can learn valuable life lessons from the game of football.

Finally, as a competitive youth football organization, the Sussex Jayhawks is committed to providing its players and families the best coaches, leadership, and program structure possible using experienced and trained volunteers in each role that has responsibility.  Player development and striving to win are the focus for each team.  However, winning at the expense of any players, opponents, or the organization will not be tolerated.  Finally, no child will be turned away from our program, everyone makes the team.

SUSSEX JAYHAWKS Goals

  • To always have an organizational structure where we have dedicated and qualified volunteers in every position that are necessary to run well youth based and volunteer lead programs. This includes having a Board that meets regularly to discuss both the business and sports aspects to meet the needs of its members.
  • To continue requiring the annual Certification Training available through ASEP, NYSCA or WYSCO for all Coaches.  This also includes an annual Background Check on every Coach in the program through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI), to keep the children and families safe within the organization.
  • To become aware of and involved in local and regional football coaches clinics sponsored by high schools, colleges, and the AAYFL.
  • To be the premier example of how a volunteer lead youth based sports organization should be operated all year long.
