2006 Spruce Grove White Sox Season Highlights


April 22: White Sox open the season vs. the PBA Junior Varsity team in Lethbridge. Kevin Inch and Myles Ethier combine to shut down the Prairie Dawgs 5-2.

April 29: Spruce Grove LHP Sheldon McDonald and RHP Brandon Zelisko combine to pitch a 7 inning no-hitter vs. the Edmonton Cardinals #2 squad.

May 20: At the BC’s Best tournament in Parksville, BC Spruce Grove opened with a 4-4 tie vs. the Coquitlam Reds (7 innings). Kyle Radke hit a bases-loaded, 2 out double to drive the offense.

May 20: Garrett Haylin dominated the North Delta Blue Jays, throwing a 4-hit, complete game shutout. Haylin also picked up all 3 RBI’s himself going 3/3 at the plate.

May 21: Myles Ethier tosses a complete-game shutout vs. the host Parksville Royals to put Spruce Grove into the semi-finals.

May 21: Kevin Inch pitched 6 solid innings in the semi-final vs. the White Rock Tritons, giving up only 3 runs to a solid White Rock lineup. The 3-1 loss puts Spruce Grove in the bronze medal game vs. the North Shore Twins.

May 22: The bronze medal game vs. North Shore Twins is called due to rain.

June 25: Spruce Grove White Sox win the 3rd Annual Peter Devries SEEBA Cardinals tournament at John Fry Park, defeating the Edmonton Cardinals #2 squad 7-6. Garrett Haylin notched the win and Sheldon McDonald earned the save.

July 3: Spruce Grove wins the 6th Annual Kamloops Riverdogs Classic Tournament at Norbrock Stadium in Kamloops, BC by defeating the Prince George Knights 5-2. Myles Ethier earned the win and Sheldon McDonald the save.

July 9: Spruce Grove wins the 1st Annual ACBF College Showcase Tournament at Telus Field in Edmonton. Myles Ethier works 6 innings for the complete-game win. Spruce Grove White Sox have won 3 tournaments in 3 consecutive tournaments.

July 14: Baseball Canada announces that LHP Sheldon McDonald will be on the 23 man roster for the Junior National team training camp in Cuba September 9-16, after which Baseball Canada will announce the 18 man roster for the World Junior Championships in Cuba September 17-27.

July 14: At the National Qualifier at John Fry Park, Spruce Grove loses to the Edmonton Cardinals #1 club, 2-0.

July 15: Spruce Grove defeats the Red Deer Braves 1-0 behind a gem from Garrett Haylin. Sheldon McDonald drives in the only run of the game.

July 15: Kevin Inch throws a complete game shutout vs. the Calgary Cubs, holding the Cubs to only 3 hits. The semi-final victory puts Spruce Grove in the final vs. Edmonton Cardinals #1.

July 15: Spruce Grove gets shutout by the Edmonton Cardinals #1 club in a tough 4-0 loss. Edmonton Cardinals #1 advance to Baseball Canada Midget National Championships in PEI.

Spruce Grove White Sox have played in the final of the National Qualifier 3 consecutive years:

-In 2004 vs. Sherwood Park A’s, who went on to win the National Championship in St. Albert.
-In 2005 vs. Sherwood Park A’s, with Spruce Grove winning and going on to finish 6th at the National Championships in Trois Rivieres, PQ.
-In 2006 vs. Edmonton Cardinals #1, with the Cardinals going on to finish 5th at the National Championship in Summerside, PEI.

July 20: Sheldon McDonald, Kevin Inch, Myles Ethier, and Garrett Haylin represent Spruce Grove at the Norwest Midget League All-Star game in Red Deer, as voted upon by their teammates.

July 27: Team Alberta U-17 announces that LHP-1B Josh Edwards will be on the roster to compete at the Baseball Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, AB August 17-20.

Aug 6: Spruce Grove finishes 2nd place to the Calgary Cubs at the Norwest League Championships, which also served as the Western Championship Qualifier, as well as the Baseball Alberta provincial championship. Calgary Cubs represent Alberta at the Westerns in Regina.

Aug 29: Team Alberta U-16 announces RHP/IF Burke Seifrit and RHP/IF Brandon Zelisko will play in Winnipeg Aug 31-Sep 3, vs. Team Saskatchewan and vs. Team Manitoba in the annual Prospect Series.
