Southern Oregon Falters in Bend

Bend, Ore.— Too many errors not enough runs for the RiverDawgs as they were outlasted by Bend for the second time in as many days 13-8 in a Wednesday afternoon contest.

The ‘Dawgs led 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but that was squashed by the Elk hitters who put up five runs on six hits to make it 9-5 Bend. That frame also saw two of Southern Oregon’s five total errors.

Despite the loss the Medford team out hit the Elks 15-14.  Highlighting the hit attack was Travis Wolf who went 2-4 with a double and a solo home run (his 2nd of the season).  Wolf finished with three RBI.

For the Elks it was John Stanley who put in some work at the plate, he went 2-2 with a homer and two RBI.

The loss puts Southern Oregon’s overall record at 16-14.

The ‘Dawgs will be back in action at home Saturday against Sonoma.  The four game series is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Bend Elks Pummel RiverDawgs

Bend, OR— Two big innings for Bend and the Elks hand the RiverDawgs their13th loss on the season Tuesday night by a score of 13-3 in a non-league contest.

Southern Oregon got on the board first and made it 1-0, but the Elks were relentless on offense.  They scored five runs in the 4th inning forcing the Dawgs to go to their bullpen.  Shawn Freeman started the game on the mound for Southern Oregon, he went three and a third innings giving up six runs off of six hits.

The Dawgs pulled to within four at 6-2 thanks to Austin Hogans who finished the game 2-4 with one RBI and a double and triple.

The big blow for Southern Oregon came in the eighth inning when Bend’s Ryan Dunn mashed a bases loaded double that plated three runs, his effort was part of a six run inning for the Elks.

Despite the rough night, Travis Wolf put together a solid night at the dish for the River Dawgs, he went 3-5 with three singles.

The Medford team is now 16-13 overall on the season.

They’ll be back in action against Bend Wednesday afternoon with first pitch at 12:30 p.m.

Extras Needed, Dawgs Sneak Past Bighorns

Carson City, Nev.— In a home game for the Dawgs at Carson High School Southern Oregon finished off the Bighorns 2-1 in an 11 inning affair.  Nevada will not be trekking to Medford this season so the River Dawgs were dubbed the home team for Wednesday’s contest as well as both of Thursday’s games.

Locked at one run apiece, Travis Wolf led off the bottom of the 11th for Southern Oregon with a hard hit ball to first.  The ball went out off play off the first baseman which allowed Wolf to advance to second.  That gave way for Allen Smith who punched a double off the right field wall allowing Wolf to plate the game-winning tally.

Smith had an 0-4 mark in his previous at bats, but the first pitch he saw was right where he wanted it.

“It was a low inside fastball, I was just trying to at least get Trav to third,” Allen said.

River Dawgs pitcher Shawn Freeman dazzled in seven innings of work.  He gave up one unearned run.  Marcus James completed the game in four innings of shutout work.

With the win the River Dawgs move to 13-9 overall and 6-6 in WCL Tri-State play.  The loss for Nevada was it’s third straight.

Southern Oregon will continue their series with the Bighorns in a doubleheader Thursday with game one slated to start at 5 p.m.
