Bombers Eliminated From Playoffs, Nelson, Blunt, Urseth Named All Stars
Overall Record 11-14 (9-9 League)
Bombers lose 7-1 on Single Elim Saturday to the Cobras...Thus Ending Their Season
Congrats to Ryan Nelson (P), Donald Blunt (SS), and Jon-Eric Urseth (UT/Coach)
2009 Bombers All Star Representatives, All Star Game is August 4th at Minnetonka H.S.
The final two weeks of the season weren't kind to the Bombers as their bats failed to propel them into double digit wins in the Park National League. The Bombers fell to 7th place overall and will face the #6 seed the Minneapolis Cobras, 4:30 at Parade Stadium on Saturday the 25th. Be there as it is a single elimination format for the first round. Hopefully their bats show up too.

The Bombers won in walk off fashion as they rallied to tie the game in the 6th on a two out double by Jon-Eric Urseth and a game winning double by Tim Gerding in the 7th. Nic Shelby threw well as his change-up was so devastating that it forced the Rats coach and #3 hitter to scratch their heads and wax up their fake mustaches. Apparently there was an Adam Seaman mustache give-away before the game but the Bombers weren't one of the first 10,000 people in attendance. The parking lot went the way of the Bombers as the Rats knew they were overmatched...the pseudo peanut bar must have sent chills down the spines of the weary Rats. Next up...Lyons Pub...Thursday and Sunday at Parade 8:30 and 5:00 Respectively.

The Bombers beat the Metro Merchants 6-1 Thursday as pitcher Ryan Nelson threw 6 strong innings and added 2 hits to help his cause. Jake Skovbroten threw a scoreless 7th and looked sharp. Erik Dahl busted his slump off former teammate David Laukkonen. Laukkonen threw a complete game for the Merchants and took advantage of a large zone striking out a handful. The Bombers were joined by a pair of Merchants in the parking lot as their own team deserted them. Nate Yates and Laukkonen chatted with former teammates Dahl and Urseth and the Bombers quickly emptied their cooler of beer. After the lot Urseth and Rudolph made the 5 hour drive to Urseth's cabin for a 4th of July weekend filled with fireworks, fishing, and inebriation. Have a good 4th everyone...
6-29-09
The Angels beat the Bombers 6-5 in 9 innings. Jon-Eric Urseth pitched all 9 while keeping Angels hitters off balance with a variety of junk including a RA Dickey-esk knuckleball. Things looked bad for the Bombers early as the Angels scored 5 in the 5th inning. The Bombers waited till their would-be last at bat to rally and score 5 of their own, including 4 with 2 outs. The Angels scored a lone run in the 9th which proved to be enough as the magic was gone for the Bombers. Season split with the Angels...The Merchants are up next.
6-24-09
The Bombers beat the Blue Sox in convincing fashion 7-1. Pitcher Tyler Campion went the distance and Mike Strickland tripped over his own feet. Jon Rudolph got his first at bat of the year and struck out looking on a "dirty" curveball according to Rudolph. Kudos to the Blue Sox second baseman for an excellent diving catch to extend Erik Dahl's season long slump. We will be offering up rum to Jobu before the next game.
6-21-09
The Bombers lost a game against the Rocks 8-4. Toilet. Bombers hitters put more balls in the parking lot than in play as their bats fell silent. Rick Andersen wore tweener socks...and the Bombers won in the Parking Lot.
Game Note: The Rocks webmaster is pretty critical of the league secretary's website updates, he has been busy with the league's rosters for the last few weeks making sure that each team is eligible for the playoffs...also it would be nice for people to email me with scores of games so I dont have to look for them...also the River Rats have 12 losses not 11. That is all.

The Bombers avenged an early season defeat to the Cobras, winning 5-2. Pitcher Ryan Nelson threw another gem as he went all 7 innings. Jake Skovbroten had the only extra base hit for the Bombers as a sure triple turned into a stand up double. Tom DeRoma hit a Cobra in the head with a foul ball, and followed that up with a swinging bunt single to avoid the beer frame. Tyler Campion pinch ran with the wrong earflap helmet but still managed to turn left at each base and scored a run. Kevin Roth picked up an RBI and a bruise as he was hit by a pitch wit the bases loaded.
The game was halted for a brief period as "movie scene" type rain fell for a 20 minute span. Parade Stadium worker and Park National Superfan Mike Castle ran an Adrian Peterson-like 40 yard dash time in order to tarp the mound. The rain gave pitcher Ryan Nelson a break as he was able to get out of a bases loaded jam.
In the parking lot the Bombers dominated as Donald Blunt put his ipod on shuffle and the team played guess the rapper. If you closed your eyes you would have guessed Rick Andersen was in attendence due to the large amount of Bonethugs and Tupac being played...however Rick was busy making pizzas in Plymouth. There was a rendition of Harry Carry's first baseball game ever played and explinations for those who didn't get the jokes. NWC honor student Tyler Campion loved it. The last two Bombers in the lot went parking lot boating (literally) with the Lyon's Pub Warriors and enjoyed a garbage bag full of chex mix.
The next game for the Bombers is Sunday 2:30 at Parade against the Rocks...The Bombers will be looking for the season sweep.
Coon Rapids and Laker Game Recap
The Bombers dropped a pair of games to the Lakers 5-4 in 10 innings and to the Coon Rapids Redbirds 2-0. Hits with runners in scoring position and quality umpiring were hard to find. Not much else to say. Coach Urseth found it nearly impossible to be ejected against the Lakers. He did try though...
6-9-09
Bombers won a big game in the Park National Tuesday as they beat the Minneapolis Angels 7-4. Pitcher Ryan Nelson threw 5.1 innings of 2 hit ball and added a booming triple to open the scoring. Former Bomber Darren Ginther threw well for his new team, and drove in 2 with a 7th inning single. Donald Blunt crushed a triple into the night, Taylor Legeros scored from first (wow), and Erik Dahl dusted off a large festive hat (sombrero) that he will wear until Thursday. Adam Seaman giggled like a schoolgirl as his beer frame dodging single sailed over the second baseman's head.
In the parking lot...The Bombers crushed a 30 pack of Keystone so fast that LHP Derek Bjoraker had not even finished his post game chat with his girlfriend. With the alcohol supply running thin the Bombers called it an early (midnight) night. Hats off to the Angels, who's love for a lack of sleep won them the parking lot battle. The Bombers were content to go 1-1 on the evening. Nick Joseph made a post-game appearance and explained to RHP Isaac Johnson the importance of hedging your bet on a multi-team parlay. If you want to take Nick J's roll you're gonna have to shoot him.
The Bombers face the Lakers Thursday, 6:15 at Parade. Grilling is planned postgame so bring your bread and butter pickles, LIIIDDD, and CHIIIPS. Let's turn Parade Stadium into TJ MAXX during the after Thanksgiving Day Sale.

The Bombers edged the Metro Merchants Tuesday as Jon-Eric Urseth was 2-3 with 2RBI and recorded a two inning save. The Bomber's starter was Ryan Nelson who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings, and as the Bombers plated the eventual game winning run in the bottom of the fifth, picked up the win. Adam Seaman went 2-3 at the plate. The hard luck hero was Erik Dahl who went 0-4 with 3 crushed flyouts to the outfield. Dahl's day only got worse when his final at bat yielded the dreaded beer frame. The seventh inning was interesting as Urseth struck out Merchant leadoff hitter Corey Koidahl to end the game with runners on first and third.
In the parking lot the Bombers remained undefeated, besting the last Merchant Dave Laukkonen. Bomber grillmaster Jon-Eric Urseth extended a classy olive branch post-game as he let Laukkonen and the remaining Merchants borrow mustard and ketchup.
The Bombers game Friday against Northfield has been postponed due to a make-up league game for Northfield.
Next game is Sunday at 5:00pm against the River Rats at Parade Stadium.

The Bombers were bested by the Waseca Braves Friday night as the nine Bombers who showed up couldnt plate enough runs to beat the veteran Waseca squad. The game was held up by attempted leadoff hitter Ryan Nelson who was 25 minutes late, showed up with his cleats on, and ran directly into LF. The Bombers quickly allowed 6 runs to Waseca in the first two innings before waking up the bats and scoring 4 runs in the 4th inning. Jon-Eric Urseth, Nic Shelby, and Erik Dahl (2) blasted doubles and Ryan Nelson crushed a triple over the center fielder's head. Nate Loughran swiped bags all day and Shelby was quoted as saying "this is the most running I have ever done." Shelby was 3-5 on the day.
The Bombers were joined in their postgame festivities by the Waseca "rally cat". The cat climbed Nate Loughran's car and blessed the Bombers with good luck for the rest of the season.
The Bombers resume league play Tuesday at 6:15 vs. The Metro Merchants. Sponsored by Keystone Light.
5-27-09
The Bombers invoked the 10-Run rule Wednesday as Kevin Roth hit a walk off 2RBI single in the bottom of the 5th. The Bombers had a solid performance overall with solid pitching by Jon-Eric Urseth and timely hitting by Dave Matyi, Nick Joseph, Roth, and Urseth. Fill-in cleanup hitter Tyler Campion caught the Blue Sox snoozing as he lead off the 2nd with a perfect bunt single.
Urseth helped his own cause with a 2RBI bases loaded single, which was shortly followed by a Matyi 2RBI single of his own. The highlight of the night was Nick Joseph's pinch hit at bat in the 5th inning. The Blue Sox attempted the rare "Ice The Batter" move by switching catchers mid at bat...but to no avail as Joseph slammed a ball into the left center gap for a stand up (literally) double.
The Bombers play Friday in Waseca, MN in hopes to avenge last years loss to the Braves. 7:30 pm start.
5-23-09
Cannon Falls proved too much for the Bombers Friday night as they triumphed 5-2. The Bears took a 5-0 lead after a 4 run 3rd inning featuring wild pitches, walks, and the ultimate respect of Nic Shelby's arm in left field. Lucky for the Bears, Shelby had thrown 6 strong innings the day prior or that unlucky runner may have been out at third. Ryan Nelson had a great relief appearance, throwing 5 scoreless innings. Matt Nelson dusted off the softball spikes and caught a ball in left, slightly avenging his 0-2 with two K's and a broken bat.
Up next for the Bombers is a night game with the Blue Sox on Wednesday, 8:30 at Fort Snelling. I have been told by a source that there might be a Natty Ice sighting in the post game festivities.
5-21-09
The Bombers won their first league game as Nic Shelby and Jake Skovbroten combined for a shutout of the the Minneapolis Rocks, 3-0. All 3 runs for the Bombers came in the 4th as Donald Blunt hit an RBI 2B and Jake Skovbroten came up with a 2 out 2 RBI single. Skovbroten relieved Shelby after 6 strong innings with a 1-2-3 7th inning to earn the save.
In the parking lot the Bombers beat the entire Park National League as veteran Nick Joseph made his presence felt, despite his pinch hit beer frame performance. The Bombers had a special parking lot sponsor Thursday as Modelo Special had quality outing, starting smooth and finishing strong.
Please be on the lookout for Nate Loughran's black Chrysler Sierra...it was last seen parked on the street exactly 9 minutes from Loughran's house in South Minneapolis. There is a rumor of a $200 bounty on the location of the vehicle...or $150 if you relay the information to Nick Joseph.
5-19-09
The Bombers opened up the Park National League schedule with a 10-0 thrashing by the hands of the Cobras. Hits were few and far between as Matt Germar of the Cobras had all pitches working. Ryan Nelson's leadoff double, Tim Gerding and Jon-Eric Urseth's singles were all the Bombers could muster.
The Bombers redeemed themselves in the parking lot...downing multiple beers in the 97 degree heat. They outlasted the Cobras as a friendly battle between skippers (Rob Gossard and Jon-Eric Urseth) ended with Urseth pumping his fist with PBRs in hand.
On a serious note...The Bombers post-game watering hole, "the pit of suck", was found filled in by Minneapolis street workers. This leaves the Bombers as a group of vagabonds but also compels the players to stop sucking. We will be searching the parking lot for "the bump of win"...stay tuned for updates.
5-17-09
The Bombers won a pair of games Sunday against the St.Paul Mudhens...claiming a duo of high scoring games 18-10 and 13-10. The Bombers were lead by Donald Blunt, who went 4-5 in the first game with 4 runs scored. Also leading the Bombers were Erik Dahl and Adam Seaman. The pair scored 8 runs on the day and drove in a plethora of runs. Seaman added the Bombers first "big fly" of the year with a 2 run bomb in the first game.
The second game hero was Mike Strickland...who oddly did not field a ground ball all day. Strickland was 4-5 with 4RBI including a 3-2 2 out bases loaded double to put the Bombers up for good.
Pitching wise the Bombers recieved strong starts from veteren Nic Shelby and rookie Ryan Nelson. Isaac Johnson and Donald Blunt relieved in the first game while Jake Skovbroten and Charlie Devorak pitched in the second.
The highlight of the night was Isaac Johnson, who voluntarily hit in the infamous "beer frame" of the second game due to his poor performance in the first game. Issac hit more batters than spots in the first game...but was happy that chipotle was delivered to the dugout in between games. Apparently a chicken burrito with hot salsa does a lot for a persons concience. The Bombers christened Coach Urseth's new grill post game with beddar chedars and "fun dogs"...and not only did the Bombers win the post game parking lot battle...they caught the late innings of the 35+ league game following their own doubleheader.
Next game is Tuesday, the Park National season opener...Against the Cobras...6:15 at Parade Stadium.
5-15-09
The Bombers lost a close game to the Dundas Dukes, Friday May 15th, as their ninth inning rally ended with the bases loaded. The Bombers did however win in their post game battle with Taco Bell. The Bombers 3-4 hitters downed a combined 5 cheesy double beef burr itos while also adding several other items.
Erik Dahl hit well going 3-5 with 2 doubles. Dave Matyi had a double and a clutch bases loaded walk. Donald Blunt ran like people were chasing him collecting 3 SBs. Jake Skovbroten pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Next Game(s) are against the St. Paul Mudhens on Sunday at Dunning Field in St. Paul. Two nine inning games will be played, followed by the first Bomber grill out of the season. Game time 12:00.
