Mudhens strike early, then falter and fall to Irish.
In what has become a long 3-18 season, the Minneota Mudhens came out swinging Wednesday night against the Milroy Irish. But after four hits and three runs in the first inning — the bats fell silent and The Irish came back for an 8-3 win over the Mudhens. For awhile they looked like the Mudhens of old. Jesse Drager walked, Tyson Sonnenburg sacrificed him to second and Jason Myhre singled Drager home. Hits from Justin Greenwood, Marc Craigmile and Jesus Macias followed for a 3-0 lead as Myhre and Craigmile scampered home. But that was about it. Pitcher Tyler Pederson retired 14 straight Mudhens before Craigmile drew a walk in the sixth inning. Then he and reliever Cody Mather put the Mudhens down with only a single to Aaron Sanow and walk to Craigmile.Minneota pitcher Danny Hennen deserved a better fate — but "seeing eye" singles found their way through the Mudhen defense and Isaac Dahl pounded out a double and Andy Ogdahl three hits to lead the Irish to the win.Dahl went into the seventh and allowed 14 hits, with Drager finishing up on the mound. The Mudhens now get a much-needed break and resume play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against the Marshall A's.
