Snow Postpones Bardstown Game (2/9/2010)

The winter weather has caused tonight's game with Bardstown to be postponed to Wednesday, February 10, with the JV contest beginning at 6:00 PM and the Varsity at 7:30 PM.  The Freshmen and JV Games at Bethlehem scheduled for that night have been cancelled.  To see the most up-to-date schedule for Freshmen, JV, and Varsity games, click on the Calendar button in the left-hand column.

Knights Look To Improve Against Tigers (2/9/2010)

The Marion County Knights will go for their second consecutive win when the Bardstown Tigers visit the Roby Dome tonight for a JV/Varsity double-header.  The Tigers come into the game with a record of just 7-12, but were 5-0 in their district contests before Friday's 64-45 loss at Nelson County, which makes Bardstown the #2 seed in the 19th District Tournament.

Bardstown has been led in recent games by junior forward Chance Grundy and standout freshman Marcus Cosby.  Grundy's 21-point effort was mentioned by Tigers coach Gary Goode as one of his team's few bright spots in the loss at Nelson County while Cosby set his career-high last week against Bethlehem, scoring 30 points in the Tigers' 67-63 win.

Senior guard Austin Spalding has averaged 21.0 points in Marion County's last three games since scoring a season-low two points against Nelson County.  Spalding leads the Knights in scoring, rebounds, and steals and is second on the team in assists.  Tip-off for tonight's JV contest is schedule for 6:00 PM, to be followed by the Varsity game at 7:30 PM.

Busy Week Ahead for Freshmen and JV Knights (2/8/2010)

Marion County juniors Josh Brockman (left) and Dalton Mills (right) have both seen action for the Varsity and JV teams.  Brockman has led the JV Knights in scoring in seven of their last eight games.  Mills has handled the point guard duties for all but the first two JV games this season, which he missed due to illness.

After playing three JV games on Saturday, the Marion County Junior Varsity and Freshmen squads have a packed schedule this week.

On Monday the JV Knights will travel to Adair County High School for a pair of games - one against Adair County and another with Casey County.  Tuesday the Bardstown Tigers visit the Roby Dome for a JV/Varsity double-header.  Wednesday the Freshmen and JV Knights travel to Bethlehem High School in Bardstown for a pair of games with the Eagles.  On Thursday all three Marion County squads will travel to Nelson County High School for a Freshmen/JV/Varsity triple-header.  Click on the Calendar button in the left-hand column for a complete list of start times and locations.

Spalding Leads MC Over Garrard (2/6/2010)

Senior Austin Spalding slices through the Garrard County defense for two of his 22 points.

Senior guard Austin Spalding followed up his 29-point performance at Taylor County Friday with a double-double as Marion County rolled over Garrard County, 75-53.  Spalding finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists - three short of the number required to claim his first career triple-double.

The Knights forced the Golden Lions into 25 turnovers while only committing 10 of their own.  Junior guard Kendrick Knopp drained four three-pointers and finished with 14 points and four assists for Marion County, while senior teammate Josh Reed scored 12.  Garrard County was led in scoring by freshman Billy Abney's 17 points.  You can read more about this game by clicking on the score in the right-hand column, or by clicking here.

The win improved Marion County's record to 10-13.  The Knights will aim for a .500 record next week with games on the road at Bardstown and Nelson County and at home against Washington County.

Full Saturday For Knights Program (2/6/2010)

The Marion County Knights basketball program has a busy day scheduled for the JV and Varsity Knights.  First the Junior Varsity squad travels to Campbellsville High School for the 20th District JV Tournament where the JV Knights will play Taylor County at 10:00 AM.  The winner of that game will face the winner of the Campbellsville-Adair County contest in the championship game, which is scheduled for 12:45 PM.

Win or lose, the JV Knights will have to get ready for a 6:00 PM game at the Roby Dome with Garrard County.  You can see results of the junior varsity games on the JV page.

The Varsity Knights will have little time to bounce back from last night's loss at Taylor County, taking on Garrard County's varsity at 7:30 PM in the Roby Dome.  Marion County defeated the Golden Lions 91-44 in the season opener back on December 1 and is looking to repeat that result tonight.

Cards Too Strong in 4th Quarter; Knights Fall 53-46 (2/5/2010)

The Taylor County Cardinals fought back Marion County's second half charge and the Knights came up short on the road, 53-46.  After falling behind by seven at the half, the Knights turned up the defensive pressure to claim a 31-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.  But Marion County could not maintain the effort as the Cards outscored the visitors by eight points in the final period,  holding the Knights scoreless for the first 3:35 of the quarter.

The Knights' defense held Taylor County senior Lloyd Stotts to eight points for the game, but the Cards got 13 points each from Tyler Moss and Tevin Webster and 11 from Chase Seaborne.  Marion County Senior guard Austin Spalding led all scorers with 29, but had little offensive help as no other Knight scored more than four.  Sophomore forward Carlos Litsey came off the bench to grab six rebounds - second only to Spalding's seven - and led the Knights in steals with four.

The loss dropped the Knights to fourth place in the 20th District while Taylor County secured second place.  You can read more about this game by clicking on the score in the right-hand column, or by clicking here.  The Knights will face #1 seed Campbellsville in the opening round of the District Tournament at Campbellsville High School and the Cardinals will take on the Adair County Indians.

Knights Aim for #2 Seed at Taylor Co. (2/5/2010)

The Marion County Knights will try to force a three-way tie for second place and the #2 seed in the 20th District Tournament if they can come away with a win at Taylor County tonight.  The Cardinals are looking to lock up second place to themselves and face Adair County in the opening round of the district tournament, leaving the Knights to face #1 seed Campbellsville.

In their last game against Marion County on January 22 the Cards overcame a 4-point half-time deficit as the Knights had a defensive collapse, allowing 49 points in the second half.  Taylor County lost in overtime at Casey County 61-56 on Monday night, but defeated Caverna at home on Tuesday 55-54 on a last-second basket by Chase Seaborne.  The Knights last game was a 75-60 loss at Lincoln County on Tuesday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM to be followed by a girls varsity game.

Long Pours in 45 as Lincoln Co. Tops Knights (2/2/2010)

Lincoln County's Colby Long carried his team past the Marion County Knights, scoring an incredible 45 points as the Patriots claimed the 75-60 win in Stanford.  Long sank 15 of his 20 shots, including 6 of 7 from behind the three-point arc.  No other Lincoln County player scored double figures.

Long's outburst included several acrobatic shots -- several with as many as three defenders covering him -- and overshadowed a 21-point performance by Marion County's Kendrick Knopp.  Knopp drained five three-pointers, converting 42% from long range despite extensive pressure from the Patriot defense.  Austin Spalding was the only other double-figure scorer in the game with 14 points to go with his six rebounds and four assists.

Marion County senior guard Josh Reed had to leave the game in the first quarter after hitting his head on the floor while taking a charge from Lincoln County's Zach Hill.  Reed was able to walk to the bench after lying on the floor for several minutes, but was eventually taken to the hospital for tests.  You can read more about this game by clicking on the score in the right-hand column, or by clicking here.

Knights Travel to Lincoln Co. to Face Patriots (2/2/2010)

The Marion County Knights will travel out of the region tonight to take on the Lincoln County Patriots in Stanford.  Lincoln County plays in the tough 12th Region and has compiled a record of 12-7 after last night’s 47-39 win over Boyle County.  The Patriots lost to Boyle County 53-39 on January 15, three days after the Rebels defeated the Knights 60-56.

Lincoln County is led by junior forward Zach Hill and senior guard Colby Long, who have both scored double-figures in each of the Patriots’ last four games.  Senior guard Matt Cooper is also a scoring threat from the outside, posting 20 points in the Patriots’ 80-41 homecoming win over Garrard County on January 19.

Tip-off for the varsity game is scheduled for 7:30 PM following a JV contest at 6:00 PM.  You can read about the results of that game following its conclusion on the JV page.

Freshmen and JV Travel To Washington Co. For Double-Header (2/1/2010)

The Knights Freshmen and Junior varsity squads will travel to Washington County High School tonight for a double header with the Commanders.  The last time these teams met on December 3, Marion County swept both games with the Freshmen Knights winning 32-29 and JV Knights finishing on top 39-33.

Marion County's Freshmen will go into this game with a record of 6-6 and are coming off a 35-34 loss to Nelson County.  The JV Knights improved their season record to 5-6 Friday night with an exciting 55-49 double-overtime win over Nelson County.  You can read about the outcomes of these games following their completion on the Freshmen and JV pages.
