Lower Mainland Baseball Association
15th Anniversary Season – 2008
The Lower Mainland Baseball Association will be marking its 15th season of recreational baseball for adult players of all ages throughout the Lower Mainland. From humble beginnings in 1994 (8 teams), the league has steadily grown until today it is Canada’s largest organized adult baseball league.
This year we anticipate 30 teams and close to 500 players competing in three very competitive divisions. Players who have recently completed their minor baseball or college careers can be found in our 18+ division. Most of our 18+ teams have come to the LMBA straight from midget or junior ranks.
Our 30+ division contains a good mix of ex-senior league players and a good representation of competitive recreational players. Our 45+ division has returned to a wooden bat format and includes many players in their 50s and early 60s.
The LMBA works closely with all baseball groups, both youth and senior. We trust that all of our players have had a beneficial off-season and we know that enthusiasm will be high to “play ball” so we are encouraging all of our teams to begin their 2008 preparations NOW. Securing park allocations, filling out rosters, collecting funds, and acquiring new equipment or uniforms should begin NOW. Our first league meeting will be early February, so please come prepared. Schedule should be in place early March, and opening weekend is April 12 – 13.
For those players finding our website for the first time, welcome. The league does not conduct try-outs and adding to team rosters is the responsibility of each individual team. We will pass on individual requests to the appropriate age division – let us know your age, where you live, and a little background information. We do work together with interested groups who may be considering entering the league as an organized team. Several new teams will be joining us this year.
We use an email network to communicate new names so the best way of getting some information is to email us at lmba@telus.net. Once our website gets fully activated, you might contact teams in your municipality. Adding new players and teams is a continual process in the LMBA and we will do what we can to accommodate those who wish to give us a try.
