Crofton Knocks Diamonds Out Of State Tournament
The Larchwood Diamonds State Amateur run came to an end at the hands of the Crofton, NE Bluejays on Saturday, August 13th by the score of 9 to 7 in the semi finals of the tournament held at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
Larchwood fell behind 4 to 0 after 2 innings, but were able to climb back into the contest with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Crofton responded with 3 more runs in the top of the 6th to push their lead to 7 to 3. The Diamonds fought their way back once again in the bottom of the 7th as they plated 4 runners to tie the game. The game would not be tied for long, as the Bluejays were able to get a two run home run in the top of the 8th to give them the lead and eventually go on to defeat the Diamonds.
Patrick Sinnema started for the Diamonds, two days after taking a line drive off the side of his head. Sinnema pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 11 hits. Pick up player Bo Bruinsma from Elk Point pitched 1/3 inning and Jared Kirkeby finished the final two innings.
Jon Underberg led the Diamonds offense with 3 hits and 1 rbi. Jake Schoening chipped in with 3 rbi while Koury Kramer and Travis Feekes each had 2 hits.
The Diamonds finished the season with a 14 and 10 record.
