Two More Lancers Commit
Two more La Follette Lancer baseball players made commitments to play college baseball next year. AJ Verhage who is the Lancers third baseman will attend Northland College in Ashland, WI and Casey Seelow, a catcher for the Lancers, will attend Marian College in Fond Du Lac, WI and once again play with Tony Grannis who graduated last year.
Ricci Commits To Jacksonville
Senior Nate Ricci made his announcement that he will take his talents to Florida next fall and play for the Jacksonville Dolphins. He chose Jacksonville over Wright St. Ricci who was a first team all-conference outfielder last year will be a senior this spring.
Lancers Heading To Louisville
The Lancers will be heading to Louisville, KY to play three non-conference teams vs very strong competition. The team will leave on Wednesday, April 3rd and return Saturday, April 6th. The Lancers will play Thursday, April 4th vs. Shelby County at 6pm. On Friday, the Lancers will take on Pleasure Ridge Park at 6pm, the the trip will conclude with the Lancers taking on Butler Traditional at 10:30am on Saturday.
Lancers Changing Sectionals
Starting next year the Lancers will be changing sectionals. The Lancers the last couple years had been in sectional 6, that included Sun Prairie, East and many other teams from the Fox River Valley. Now they will be joining sectional 5 that includes, West, Monona Grove, Parker, Craig and other Badger conference schools.
Lancers Season Ends
The Lancers season came to end with a 5-3 loss to Neenah in the regional final. The Lancers could not overcome a 5-0 lead by the Rockets. The Lancers would like to thank all the seniors on a great season as well as a great four years of high school baseball.
Lancers Defeat Goslings
The Lancers defeated the Gosling 3-1 in the the regional semifinal at Warner Park. The offense was led by Nick Anderson going 3-3 and Zach Furniss pitched a complete game to get the win. The Lancers will travel to play Neenah on Friday, June 3rd at Neenah HS. The game will start at 4:30.
Lancers Will Host Watertown
The La Follette Lancers will host Watertown in regionals on Tuesday, May 31st. The time and location are still to be determined. Please Check back for updates.
Lancers Defeat East At Warner
In the first game played at Warner Park this year, the Lancers defeated East 4-0. The Lancers got on the board first thanks to a sacrifice fly by Taylor Carlson, which proved to be the only offense the Lancers needed. Zach Furniss went five strong innings giving up three hits and striking out six.
Lancers Will Open Duck Pond
Madison East and Madison La Follette have been without a home field all spring, but the payback comes May 27 when those teams christen the renovated stadium at Warner Park.
The 7:05 p.m. game between Big Eight Conference rivals will be fans' first chance to check out the facility, which is in the final stages of a $1.8 million renovation through a partnership between the Madison Mallards summer college baseball team and Madison Parks and Recreation. Gates open two hours in advance.
Admission is free for the seven-inning game, which is being underwritten in part by TDS. However, organizers are suggesting a $4 donation, with proceeds split evenly between the Madison Parks Foundation and Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
Lancers Earn Split In Kenosha
The Lancers split a pair of games down in Kenosha, the Lancers won the first won 10-0 over Benton-Zion(IL). AJ Verhage got his first high school victory going three innings striking out four and walking two. In the second game the Lancers lost 10-9 over Kenosha Bradford. The Lancers were led offensively by Nick Anderson and Nate Ricci who each had three hits apiece.
Lancers Cant Complete Come Back
The Lancers got behind 10-1 going into the bottom of the fifth before the bats finally woke up. La Follette scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the game to 10-7 but the Lancers could not catch the Memorial Spartans who went on to win the game 12-11. Taylor Carlson led the Lancers with three hits and four rbi.
Furniss And Bats Red Hot
The Lancers bats stayed hot in earning a 10-0 win over Madison Memorial. The Lancers were led by Tony Grannis who went 4-4 and drove in two. Taylor Carlson also added two hits as well. On the mound Zach Furniss was scorching hot, he went six strong inning, allowing only five hits to earn the victory. The Lancers will play Madison Memorial again Tuesday, May 17th at Oregon HS.
Lancers Bats Come Alive
The Lancers bats came alive pounding out 12 hits in a 10-3 win over Beloit Memorial. Nate Ricci and Taylor Carlson were a combined six for ten at the plate and drove in five runs. Zach Furniss got his first win of the year going five innings, giving up three runs on five hit and striking out six. The Lancers will play at Mansfield on Monday, May 16th in a makeup game from earlier in the year.
Verona Defeats Lancers
The Lancers continued their slide with a 6-5 loss at Verona. The Lancers held a 3-1 lead but Verona scored five runs in the fourth inning. The Lancers responded with a run in the fifth and in the seventh but Verona pitcher Ben Nuemann got Tony Grannis looking on strike three. The Lancers look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they travel to Beloit.
West Defeats Lancers Again
The Regents defeated the Lancers 5-2 in a conference game Tuesday night. The Lancers mustarded only three hits in the loss. Evan Falch led the Lancers at the plate going 2 for 3. The Lancers move to 8-6 on the year.
Back To Back HR's Beat Eagles
The Madison La Follette Lancers defeated the Monona Grove Silver Eagles 6-4 in a non-conference game at Firemans park on Saturday. The Lancers got out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Taylor Carlson rbi single that plated Evan Falch. The Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. The Lancers got two more runs in the third with rbi singles Falch and Carlson. Then with the Lancers trailing 4-3 heading into the fifth Carlson and Nate Ricci hit back to back homeruns to give the Lancers the lead for good. La Follette would add another run in the seventh as well. Nate Ricci got the win in relief of Chaz Mohr. Casey Seelow got the save. Carlson and Ricci went a combined 7 for 8 with 4 rbi.
Lancers Sweep DH
The Lancers won both games on Friday night at Fireman's Park in Cottage Grove beating East 6-4 and then beating Midland HS (IL) 20-4. In the first game, the Lancers got on the board in the bottom of the first with an rbi single by Talyor Carlson. The Lancers would add two runs in the second and third innings. Taylor Carlson worked six strong innings to get the win and Nate Ricci came in to pick up the save. Fernando Espinosa went 2 for 2 with 2 rbi. In the second game the Lancers banged out twenty hit and got Tyler Stewart his first high school win. Stewart threw three innings, striking out two and giving up just one base hit.
Site change for April 29th games
Due to a scheduling conflict, the site for tonight's games has changed from Ashley Field in Sun Prairie to Fireman's Park in Cottage Grove. Game time and opponents for tonight remain the same. (posted 3:15pm)
Times Set For Next Three Games
The Lancers have some time changes thanks to the great weather in Wisconsin. On Friday, April 29th, the Lancers will take on Madison East at Ashley Field in Sun Prairie at 5:00 PM, then at 7:30 they will play a non-conference tilt vs. Midland High School out of Illinois. The Lancers will then play Monona Grove on Saturday at Fireman's Park in Cottage Grove. Game time, noon.
Lancers Vs. Parker Game Suspended
The Lancers vs Janesville Parker game was suspended last night due to darkness. The game is in the top of the 12th tied at 5-5. The completion of the game will take place when Parker travels to Madison to face the Lancers in late May.
Lancers Split With Craig
On Saturday, the Lancers split a doubleheader with Janesville Craig in a Big Eight Conference match-up. The Cougers jumped out to a 3-1 lead heading in the sixth when the Lancer bats woke up. Taylor Carlson led the inning off with a double, Nate Ricci doubled in the next at bat to bring in Carlson to cut the lead to 3-2. Ricci would then steal third base and Craigs catcher threw the ball down the line allowing Ricci and the Lancers to tie the game. Craig would not score in the top of the seventh and the Lancers capitalized on a Craig error in the seventh and won the game 4-3. Nate Ricci got the win for the Lancers coming in relief of Taylor Carlson who threw five strong innings giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out seven. In the second game the Lancers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Lancers gave up seven in the bottom of the fourth. La Follette would tie it up in the the fifth but once again Craig answered with another four runs and would never give up the lead again. The Lancers would go on to lose the game 13-10.
Game Time Set For Craig
The Lancers will play a doubleheader vs. Janesville Craig on Saturday, April 23rd at 1pm out at Sun Prairie HS. The second game will start 20 mins after the completion of the first game.
Lancers Lose Close One
The Lancers lost 5-3 on Thursday to Middleton in a Big Eight Conference game. Middleton got out to a 1-0 lead early but the Lancers tied it up in the sixth with Taylor Carlson solo homerun to center. Middleton pushed four runs across in the seventh to take the lead 5-1. The Lancers made it interesting in the seventh but left the bases loaded to end the game. Zach Furniss pitched six strong innings but took the loss.
Lancers Get Washed
The Lancers got rained out this past Saturday April 16 vs. Janesville Craig and also yesterday April 19th vs. Madison Memorial. The Madison Memorial game will be made up Monday, May 16th 5pm at Mansfield. The doubleheader against Janesville Craig has yet to be determined.
Beloit Tops Lancers 4-2
The Lancers were beat tuesday afternoon by the Beloit Knights 4-2. The Lancers got out to a slow start allowing one run in each of the first two innings. No team could scratch runs acrossed in the third and fourth by in the fifth the Knights added another run to make the score 3-0. The Lancers finally got on the board thanks to a Tony Grannis double that scored Nick Anderson and Vaughn Brockel. The Lancers would get no closer, Beloit added another run in the sixth. The Lancers fall to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
Lancers Split Doubleheader
On Saturday at Copeland Park in LaCrosse, the Lancers spilt a doubleheader vs LaCrosse Central. In the first game the Lancers got out to an early 3-0 thanks to an Nate Ricci's single that scored Vaughn Brockel and Tony Grannis. Casey Seelow plated the third run with a sacrifice fly that scored Chaz Mohr. The Lancers added to the lead in the fourth, highlighted by a Tony Grannis double that scored two. Taylor Carlson was the star on the mound picking up the win. Carlson pitched five strong innings, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out four. In the second game the Lancers struggled to get out of the first inning. Central took adavantage of a La Follette error and put an eight spot on the Lancers. The Lancers got on the board in the second with a Casey Seelow sacrifice fly and a fielders choice by Joe Soehnlein. Zach Furniss came in, in relief and pitched five shut-out innings.
Lancers Rally To Beat Verona
The Lancers overcame a 6-0 deficit to win 10-9 in eight innings vs. Verona HS. Verona jumped out early thanks to a two run homerun by Verona's Yapp. The Lancers rallied to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth thanks to Taylor Carlson rbi fielders choice and a Nate Ricci double that score two. Verona answered with two in the top of the sixth and the Lancers answered again with a four run sixth. Verona scored once more in the seventh to make it a 9-7 ball game. With La Follette starring at there last at bats, Evan Falch singled in Aaron Huemmer and Tony Grannis drove in the tying run with a fielders choice. Matt Piehl pitched the 7th and 8th in relief stranding runners at second and third in the top of the eighth. Then he came up with runners on first and third in the bottom of the inning and drove in Taylor Carlson for the Lancers to win 10-9 in a big eight conference matchup.
Lancers Drop Tough One
The Lancers dropped there first game of the season losing 3-2 vs Madison West. Lancers got on the board early when Senior Tony Grannis led off with double and was later driven in by Senior Taylor Carlson. La Follette tacked on another run in the sixth with an rbi single by senior outfielder Evan Falch. Then with a a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, the Lancers gave up three runs, to lose a heartbreaker.
Lancers Sweep Doubleheader
The Lancers started there season off the right way sweeping games over Oregon and Lake Geneva Badger. In the first game, the Lancers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a rbi single by senior Kevin Littel and a three run homerun by senior Vaughn Brockel. The lancers would push another run across in the second with an rbi double by senior shortstop Tony Grannis. Oregon answered with a run in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-1. Oregon scored in the fifth and the sixth, but the lancers answered by scoring in the seventh with rbi double by senior Taylor Carlson. Carlson came in the seventh and closed the game for the Lancers giving them a 6-3 win over Oregon. Junior Nate Ricci got the win in relief and Carlson the save. In the second game the Lancers the Lancers cruised 11-1 in a five inning shortened game. Seniors Nick Anderson and Kevin Littel lead the way for the Lancers going a combined three for five with five rbi's. Junior Matt Piehl earned his first varsity win throwing three innings, allowing only one hit, no earned runs and three strikeouts.
Lancers Open Season in Oregon
The Lancer baseball team has practiced inside for the last two week and cant wait for the season to open tomorrow Saturday April 2, 10am at Oregon HS. The Lancers will play Oregon in the first game and will play Lake Geneva Badger is the second part of the doubleheader.

Player/Parent Meeting
On Wednesday, March 16th, from 7-8pm at La Follette High School, room C17. The meeting will cover many aspects of the Lancer program and should be attend by all. email invites and a letter will be sent.
Lancer Baseball Camps
The Lancers will be putting on baseball camps for all ages this winter and spring. Please check back soon for updates of when camps will be happening.
La Follette Sets Records At State
After it was all said and done the Lancers finished apart of at least six records. The team finished tied for 2nd all-time in the Divison 1 State Tournament with 3 triples in a game vs Fort Atkinson. The Lancers also finished 2nd all-time with 4 sacrifices in a game(vs. Waterford), finished 3rd all-time with 8 sacrifices in a Divison 1 State Tournament. The Lancers finished 5th all-time with 35 hits in a Divison 1 State Tournament. The most impressive record the Lancers were apart of was, that they hit .393 as a team, whiched ranked 4th all-time in the Divison 1 State Tournament, which has taken place since 1948. That average finished 9th all-time for in average for the history of all 4 Divisons. On a personal note, senior Tony Grannis finished tied for 1st all-time with sacrifices in a state tournament.
La Follette Finishes Second In State
La Follette completed a unbelievable season when they finished runner up in the state title game. The Lancers ended up losing to Bay Port 10-5 in the championship game. Below is links to video and stories on the great run. Also thanks to all of our supporters who helped make the run possible.
