YOUNG TEAM LOOKS TO DOMINATE

The Islander Family is now younger, but full of potential and talent. "Hard work is key" said former Midget Islander Brent Holness. Coming off a "AA" provncial championship, the Midget Isles have a handful of returnees with a strong group of rockpiles. With the category/tiering system changed by BChockey, due to the numbers, Kerry Park is no longer seen as a "AA" association. Tier 3 is now the classification for the Islander family's playoffs/provincials. Where on the Island, they join Victoria Ice Hawks, Sooke, Tri-Port, and "2nd teams" (B teams) of Juan de Fuca, Peninsula, Saanich, Campbell River, Alberni Valley. With this "weaker" setting for the islanders, look for not only the midgets to dominate this pool and get off the island come march, but expect the Bantams to do so as well. The coaching symposium of the Islander program is strong and things will go nowhere but up. Taking over duties for the Midgets after 3 years of Brad Scafe behind the bench (after being appointed Coach & GM of the Jr.B Isles), is Lorne McInerny. Lorne has coached at KPMH for years now, and brings a simply hard working approach to the success of this program. In the Bantams, returning after a year's hiatus is Doug Nicholson as head coach for the third time on the Bantam program, and joining him along the way is currently retired Junior Hockey player and former Midget Islander Brent Holness. And completing that staff is former All-star goaltender with the midget Islanders Karl Faber. With numbers low, and size an issue, count on this staff to shape those boys into the hardest working team in the league. With Placement round coming up this weekend, count on the whole Islander family to show a strong round, and prove themselves as an Island powerhouse.
