Lasers Open 2009 With Win over Oconomowoc

The new look Lasers opened their 2009 campaign a little later than expected. Mother nature delayed the start of Saturday's game with Oconomowoc by three hours, but that didn't stop KM. The Lasers jumped on Cooney right away in the first inning for a pair of runs. Sophomore Kurtis Koehn laced a one out single into right and senior David Galando reached on an error by the shortstop. After a pop out for the second out of the inning, senior Ben Rademacher came through with a big two-out hit that scored Koehn and when the centerfielder over ran the ball, Galando came all the way around to score and make it 2-0 Lasers.

KM added another run in the second inning. Junior Nate Freeman was hit by a pitch to start the inning, but was retired on a fielders' choice hit into by junior James Gattas. A two out hit by junior David Hayden sent courtesy runner Dalton Grove from first to third and Grove would come into score on a wild pitch by Cooney pitcher Fernando Viso to make it 3-0.

The Lasers added two insurance runs in the 5th inning to stretch their lead to 5-0. David Galando reached on a one out single to left and stole second base. Another big two out single by Rademacher plated Galando and senior Chris Hayden followed with a hit as well. Freeman then singled up the middle to bring around Rademacher to make it 5-0.

Senior Brent Williams got the start and picked up the win on the mound, working three scoreless innings. Junior Matt Leslie worked two perfect innings of relief and Galando allowed two unearned runs to finish the final two innings.

David Hayden went 2-4 on the day, as did Rademacher who drove in a pair of runs. The Lasers will next be in action on Tuesday when they open Classic Eight Conference play by hosting Waukesha West at 5:30.
