Matt Weaver drafted by the Altanta Braves

Matt Weaver topped off a stellar freshman year by being selected in the Major League Draft.  Matt was chosen in the 9th round, number 268 overall, by the Atlanta Braves.  Matt is the first player in college history to be selected in the top 10 rounds.  The Region XIX and Northeast District Player of the Year will report to Orlando Florida on June 13 where he will start his professional career.

 2009 Region XIX Champions

The Burlington County College Barons earned the Region XIX title on Sunday with a 3 - 0 victory of Lackawanna College.  Tournament MVP Kyle Gieryck threw a complete game no hitter, while striking out 14 batters clinching the title for the Barons.  The Barons opened the tournament with a 13 - 10 extra inning win over host Delaware Tech Community College.  BCC was put ahead with a 10th inning 2 run home run by John Bujanowski.  In the next game against Mercer CC,  BCC needed another 10 innings to beat their county neighbors.  Matt Weaver earned his second win of the tourny while adding 2 doubles at the plate.  The Barons then dropped a heartbreaker to Lackawanna 4 - 5, just coming up short with another 9th inning rally forcing the deciding game 4.  In the final game Gieryck, who had pitched 8 strong innings the day before, was masterful allowing on 3 baserunners for the day.  While leading 1-0 in the 8th, Drew Pettit added insurance with a 2 run home run securing the title.  This is the first ever Region Championship in baseball in the 40 year history of Burlington County College.
