The TRU WolfPack finished second in the 2008 Spring portion of the Canadian College Baseball Conference. They look to return to the 2009 CCBC championship game.
The WolfPack will play a series of exhibition games during the week of Feb. 16th thru Feb. 20th against Arizona junior colleges. Chadwick stated that these games (9 gms. in 6 days) really prepares the Wolfpack for their regular season and gives them a big jump on the rest of the league.
Head Coach Ray Chadwick has a number of returning veterans including 2008 CCBC all-star shortstop Kyle Dhanani. Kyle hit .350 with a HR, 13 SB's and 33 RBI. Another 08' all-star Scott Nevison will patrol centerfield. Scott was an 08' all-star at second base but will take the place of graduated all-star Alex Ponich who is now at Campbellsville University. Nevison hit .310 and had 16 SB's last season. Ben Bradford will play RF and be asked to drive in runs. He hit .340 and led the team in RBI's with 39. Ben will be replacing another graduated CCBC all-star in Anthony Cros. Anthony is also in the US at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The bulk of the catching duties will be handled by Bryan Burston who also had a great 08' campaign. Bryan hit .363 with a HR and 24 RBI's.
On the mound Chadwick will look to Bryan Mahon, Jordan Broatch and Mike Tomlnson. Mahon led the team in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts in 08'. He was 8-0 with a 2.52 ERA and 47 k's in 62 IP's. Broath led the team in ERA (2.37) and was 5-2 with 2 saves. Tomlinson will look to play his first full season. His career at TRU has been altered by injuries and academic commitments. He was 4-1 with a save as well as hitting .333 iast year. He will DH and play first base when not on the mound. Chadwick said that he expects big things from much improved returners Yoshi Nakamura, Brock Stewart, Matt Walker and Rob Morrison. Also returning are 2 other .300 hitters from 08'. Second baseman Adam Halland, (.310) and US firstbaseman Dillon Morgan (.353 and 26 RBI's). First year players expected to make big contributions are RHP's Danny Moore and Jordan Lane, OF's Matt Prosper and Millan Lavallee, DH/ firstbaseman Jimmy Semaschuk and 2B Kalen Kirkpatrick.
With a great group of veterans and much improved rookies Coach Ray Chadwick thinks that if the Pack plays as well as they're capable and stay injury free they will continue their winning ways and should be close to the top of the league standings. Helping to make the trip back to the CCBC Championship.
