June 9th, 2011

Our last regular season game played.   We were short again, and Josh Altow from the Hornets stepped in an gave us our 9th player.     Things started out fairly eve, as both teams scored 3 in the first inning, but we were able to hold the Rockies to 1 in the 2nd, while scoring 4 of our own.   Overall it was a good game, with some milestones, Brendan hit a solid single and made a great out at first from Right Field.  Josh and Kevin both hit a stand up double and both Andrew and Jordan went 4 for 5, at bats (the 5th being a walk each).   The final score was 11 to 10, coming down to our last bats in the 6th inning.  We recorded 17 hits (including doubles by Josh and Kevin)   We had 6 walks, 1 HBP and only 6 strike outs!  We had only 8 stolen bases.    Our pitchers were: Noah with 63 pitches (40% strikes!),  Cameron threw 37 pitches (43% strikes), Kevin threw 38 pitches (57% strikes) and Jordan threw 14 pitches (57% strikes).

Our thirteenth game played, unlucky 13 for us.   We started out so well, and seemed to have things in hand, but early in the 3rd inning, Vincent went down hard on his run to 1st base, injuring himself and leaving us with only 8 players for the last 4 innings.    Still, we were leading into the 7th inning, with a 13 to 11 run lead.   However, the lack of a centerfielder caused us the final pain, and we would fall to a 7th inning comeback by the Diamondbacks.    The final score was 14 to 13.  We recorded 14 hits (including a triple by Chris.)   We had 10 walks, 1 HBP and only 4 strike outs!  We had 22 stolen bases.    Our pitchers were: Noah with 49 pitches (37% strikes!),  Cameron threw 50 pitches (40% strikes), Jordan threw 84 pitches (38% strikes).

Our twelfth game played, our 2nd against the Richmond A's.   Another game where we were a bit short, and a huge thank you to Liam and Tracey from the Hornets for helping us out. We played a solid game, with only a few errors in the field tonight.  We played much better overall.  There were a few great catches, some solid fielding and throws for outs, we had great pitching and solid hitting.  Things are really starting to come together for our team.    The final score was 18 to 9 .  We recorded 17 hits (including a double by Tracey.)   We had 7 walks and 6 strike outs!  We had 23 stolen bases.    Our pitchers were: Noah with 13 pitches (69% strikes!), Chris threw 31 pitches (65% strikes), Kevin threw 33 pitches (48% strikes), Cameron threw 39 pitches (44% strikes) and Jordan threw 16 pitches (56% strikes).  Well done everyone.

Our eleventh game played, our 5th against a Richmond Team.   Despite the wet weather, the game went on, and it turned out to be a great day for baseball.   We started out a little rocky, with only 7 players, but Cameron raced in to give us 8, and Andrew joined late to make 9.   However, we took the game to them, with our fielding working well, good hits and excellent pitching.   The final score was 16 to 3 .  We recorded 13 hits (including a double by Jordan and Jason...Kevin would have had a double, but a slippery base caught him up.)   We had 10 walks and 5 strike outs!  We had 18 stolen bases.    Our pitchers were: Noah with 51 pitches (61% strikes!), Kevin threw 16 pitches (50% strikes), Jordan threw 22 pitches (82% strikes) and Cameron closed with 20 pitches (55% strikes).  Well done everyone.

Our tenth game played, our 4th against a Richmond Team.   Yet another game with a call up...big thanks to Jonathan Cook for stepping in at the last minute.  This game had some interesting stuff, with several balks being called, and an out call for a no slide play at home plate, a couple of stolen home players during a slow throw back to the pitcher and 4 hit batters by our pitchers!   The final score was 9 to 11 for the bad guys...we almost pulled off a win too.  We recorded 8 hits (including three doubles by three different players - Cam, Jordan and Chris!).  We had 5 walks and 15 strike outs!  We had 11 stolen bases.    Our pitchers were: Jordan with 32 pitches (84% strikes!), Kevin threw 33 pitches (45% strikes), Cameron threw 41 pitches (41% strikes) and Chris closed with 31 pitches (42% strikes). A tough loss, and tougher time at the plate.

Our ninth game played, and our 3rd against a Richmond Team.  We played on a cloudy Monday evening at Brighouse Park, against the Richmond Hornets.  With four players unavailable, we used Riley Wong and Jonathan Cook as call ups.  This was an interesting game, with a lot of back and forth action and excitement!  The game literally came down to the wire...bottom of the 7th inning, two outs, down by one run and runners at 2nd and 3rd.   Noah had 1 ball and 1 strike on him when he hit a line drive through 2nd to drive in the winning run!   The final score was 12 to 11.  We recorded 13 hits (including a triple by Noah!).  We had 8 walks and 5 strike outs.  We had 19 stolen bases.    Our pitchers were: Noah with 45 pitches (58% strikes), Kevin threw 16 pitches (25% strikes), Jordan threw 45 pitches (68% strikes) and Chris closed with 30 pitches (68% strikes).  A squeaker of a win, but the boys show great stamina coming from behind and clutching up.

Our eight game played, and our 2nd against the big Vancouver Clubs.  We played on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Brighouse Park, against the Vancouver  A's.  We started out very strong, getting three runs in the first to match the A's.   After that, it seems the large yellow ball in the sky distracted our boys and we forgot we were playing the 1st place team in our pool. The final score was 15 to 5.  We recorded 7 hits.  We had 4 walks and 7 strike outs.  We had 7 stolen bases.    Again, our pitchers were: Jordan with 44 pitches (68% strikes), Chris threw 39 pitches (60% strikes),  and Cameron threw 16 pitches (54% strikes).

Our seventh game played, and our 2nd against a Richmond team.  Gibbons Park, against the Richmond A's.  We played a very good game tonight.   The lads started out strong, with a three run opening inning.   With strong pitching and defensive play, we held the A's to only one run.   The game became a defensive battle from then on, with us getting one run in every inning except the 5th, and holding the A's off the score card.  The final score was 7 to 1.  We recorded 7 hits (including a home run by Chris!).  We had 5 walks, 2 HBP and 4 strike outs.  We had 13 stolen bases.    Again, our pitchers did great: Jordan threw 33 pitches (64% strikes including 4 k's), Chris threw 39 pitches (72% strikes including 4 k's ),  and Cameron threw 16 pitches (75% strikes including 1 k).   We were stronger defensively, giving up only 5 hits and allowing 13 stolen bases.  Thanks again to Riley Wong, who came and played with us again (call up from Mosquito).   Riley recorded 2 of our 7 hits and 4 of our stolen bases.   Well done everyone.

Our sixth game played, and finally we were playing a Richmond team.  Gibbons Park, against the Diamondbacks.   The game was fairly even...tied at 5 after three innings.   We were able to hold them off the score sheet for the next three innings, while getting 4 for ourselves...we had to work for those 4 runs though, as the Diamondbacks played hard.  The final score was 9 to 7.  We recorded 12 hits (including 2 doubles).  We had 6 walks, 1 HBP and 6 strike outs.  We had 18 stolen bases.    Again, our pitchers did great: Noah threw 33 pitches (64% strikes), Chris threw 49 pitches (70% strikes),  Cameron threw 31 pitches (61% strikes) and Jordan closed with 3 pitches (33% strikes).   We were stronger defensively, giving up only 7 hits and allowing 8 stolen bases.  We also recorded a double play today.  Well done everyone.

Our fifth game played today, against the power house Vancouver Bluejays.   A weeknight game, and we were only with 9 players again.   We struggled with our bats today, not getting a run until the 4th inning...but defensively we played well.  Our intensity needed to be jacked up a little, but there were some very good plays. The final score was 10 to 1.  We recorded only 1 hit.  We had 8 walks and a HBP, but we had 11 strike outs!!  We had 5 stolen bases.    Again, our pitchers did great: Noah threw 28 pitches, Chris threw 63 pitches!!,  Jordan threw 26 pitches.

Our fourth game played today.  Another great day for baseball.   We were out at Harwood Park for another 3 pm start.   We started out very strong, getting three runs in the first, four in the second and one in the third inning...we struggled in the 4th and then got 4 in the 5th.   We were short players so Cameron's brother, Riley put on his Mosquito uniform and filled in...despite this, we still played with only 8 players.   However, we played very well, holding the Titans to only 2 runs in the game.  The final score was 12 to 2.  We recorded 9 hits (including 3 doubles and a triple).  We had 10 walks and 5 strike outs.  We had 13 stolen bases.    Again, our pitchers did great: Cameron threw 24 pitches, Kevin threw 25 pitches,  Jordan threw 27 pitches.   We were stronger defensively, giving up only 5 hits and allowing 6 stolen bases.

Our third game played.  A beautiful day for baseball.   We were out at Harwood Park for a 3 pm start.   We started out very strong, getting three runs in the first and four runs in the second, holding the Bulldogs to only three runs in the same time...but then we had two and a half innings of Bad News Bear's baseball.   The boys struggled a bit with defensive play, and we were only able to score one more run....the Bulldogs would go on to score 15 runs in the same time!   The final score was 17 to 8.  We recorded 5 hits (including 2 doubles).  We had 8 walks and 6 strike out.  We had 14 stolen bases.    Again, our pitchers: Noah threw 21 pitches with 43% strikes, Kevin threw 33 pitches with 39% strikes,  Jordan threw 49 pitches with 39% strikes and Chris threw 20 pitches with 50% strikes.   We struggled defensively giving up 12 hits and allowing 21 stolen bases.    Please check the schedule for the next training sessions and games.

April 17th, 2011

Our second game played.  The weather was a bit better today, warm and sunny.   We were out at Ron Mclean for a 3 pm start, after the opening day ceremony (thanks to those who made it out).   The boys played much better today...maybe it was the warmer weather, or maybe they were just over the first game jitters.   Or maybe they were just keen to see the Canucks 3rd playoff game (good win Canucks!).  And great win Hurricanes.  The final score was 12 to 1.  We recorded 12 hits (including 4 doubles and 2 triples!).  We had 8 walks and only 1 strike out.  We had 16 stolen bases.    Again, our pitcher did a great job, Noah threw 30 pitches with 63% strikes, and Jordan threw 39 pitches with 64% strikes.  Great job!   Please check the schedule for the next training sessions and games.

Our first played game!   The boys did great today.  Despite the cold wind, and the long grass, and only having 2 training days, the boys played a great game.   Yes, we have some work to do, but overall a good day.   The score was tied 8 - 8....my apologies to the boys, I thought we had lost by 1.  Better pay more attention next time!   We recorded three hits, 11 walks, 3 HBP's, 2 KL's and 2 KS's.   We stole 23 bases today!   Our 4 pitchers did a stellar job, with Noah throwing 44 pitches, Jordan 35, Cameron a whopping 56 and Chris closing with 27.  Congratulations on a successful first game Hurricanes!
