Oceanside Minor Baseball is proud to announce the creation of a new Bantam AAA for the North Island. In a merger with Port Alberni, Comox Valley, Campbell River, and Powell River, the team will compete in the BC Minor Bantam AAA league. The Parksville Royals have lent their support to this effort and will be involved in team selection and coaching support. The Royals have also announced that there will be no Junior team for the 2012 season.
Oceanside has been involved in this league in past and we continue to support our players’ involvement in Bantam AAA. For those players who enjoyed the level of competition they experienced in bantam or pee wee summer ball and wish they could play at that level all season long, AAA is an option you need to investigate. For those players with aspirations to play baseball with the Royals in their high school years, this is an excellent development opportunity.
The team will be based out of Courtenay and their home field will be Bill Moore Park. It is anticipated that some games may be scheduled at Springwood Park in Parksville as well as in Campbell River and Port Alberni. At this time, it appears there will be 5 Bantam AAA teams on the Island – North Island, Nanaimo, Cowichan Valley, and 2 teams in Victoria.
All prospective Bantam AAA players are invited to attend winter workouts with the Royals at the Glenwood Sports Center in Port Alberni beginning January 29, from 10:30 to 12:30.
Oceanside Minor Baseball, with help from the Oceanside Orthodox Softball Association, is pleased to announce the creation of the Stanley Chong Senior Umpire Scholarship in honour of Stanley Chong's ongoing commitment to umpiring in Oceanside. Stanley is a lifetime member of the BC Umpire Association as well as a long-time respected and valued umpire in District 69. Applications for this $500 scholarship will be received from graduating students of Ballenas Secondary School and Kwalikum Secondary School.
Oceanside Minor Baseball is proud to support our alumni as they strive to achieve their educational goals. Each year the association awards the Oceanside Minor Baseball scholarship to qualifying players who will be continuing on to college or university.
Congratulations to Grad 2011 recipients Michael Foulds and Mitchell Powelson of Kwalicum Secondary. We wish Michael and Mitchell great success in their academic careers.
